Expert: Herdt Christian Date: 12/27/2000 Subject: What is your opinion of Nokia...
Question What is your opinion of Nokia and Vodaphone? I currently own both stocks and was wondering if their best days are over.
Thanks!
Answer Dear sir,
Thank you for your writing.
Let's see: Nokia & Vodaphone. the 2 golden horses in the Telecom market. Well I've got to say these are 2 excellent and most profitable company's that are very nice to have in portfolio. Are their best days over? If I you want a correct answer to this question I have to say yes. (looking at share prices that is). Their BEST days are over. The start of 2000 has put us in a situation where telecom shares where strong overvalued. This situation will not return in the near future. But Nokia is an excellent company that has the intention to keep on growing aggressively in the upcoming 3 years. Wit the UMTS-licenses in mind the future still looks bright for Nokia. Their R&D is still growing with 29 and 63 % in respectively Networks and Cell phones. All operators will need these 3G networks and all the consumers need the Cell phones. Their market Cap increased in '99 with 250% ! This is a share that will still give you some beautiful profits in the upcoming 3years while Vodaphone will be the lesser star-deal here. Still the best operator to have in portfolio, but do not expect nokia's profits of it. If you want an operator in, keep Vodaphone...if not, look for a nice price to sell. (holding it won't damage you though). Their giant quantities of cash available put them in a position for the moment where they can do great discount deals to increase their Market Cap. But 3G is a very expensive toy for the operators.
Hope this is a little bit of an answer to your questions, if you still have questions open I'd love to hear them...until then:
