About Jeremy Blair
Expertise
I can answer questions about what type of bandwidth companies need for their office settings. I can answer basic questiosn about availability of certain types of bandwidth in certain areas and the ball-park prices companies should expect to pay. I can explain many telecommunications acronyms and terms. I cannot give information that may compromise the integrity of carriers, such as confirming service outtages or ellaborating on carrier problems.

Experience
I have 3 years of telecommunications consulting experience. The last year I have spent representing every major US carrier as a master agent.

Question
Hi Jeremy.  I will like to seek your advice about getting information about the future of global telecommunications.  Must I pay to read these research papers?

Your response is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Colin

Answer
Colin, of course this is a broad topic so rather than pin pointing one aspect of global telecommunications, I will comment on the larger picture. As for research papers, I don't have access to any official studies that would indicate a global trend, I only have my impressions.

One important note on global telecom is that the US is many years ahead of the rest of the world in terms of data connectivity and internet access. The US market is mature and bandwidth is becomming a commodity. Europe is the next in line for bandwidth efficiency, but still far behind where the US is. I am referring mostly to pricing structure and delivery. The US has the best pricing on bandwidth and the delivery is a known science, not a case study such that it is anywhere else in the world.

That said, the rest of the modern world is far far ahead of the US in terms of wireless communications. Most of Asia is so connected wirelessly that people do not even have land line phones, only cellular. Does this give them ythe edge to develop high speed wireless data connectivty and effectively deploy it for mass consumption? I think so.

Ultimately I believe we are headed for a wireless world. Satelite will play a big role in the future of telecom as backbone connectivity is graduated from terestrial networks owned by AT&T and Sprint to satelite based networks.

Of course these are my predictions on a large scale. I hope this helps.
