Question Hi,
I am new to the industry and have been doing lots of research. I am looking for a site or resource that can give me an overview of the telecommunications industry. I am trying to share info with my co-workers and for those unfamiliar, it would help to have some kind of graphical display to break telecom down into different sectors. i.e. from the main concepts, down to details like broadband, optical etc. I have had 0 luck with finding any type of beginner overview on the web so far. Any direction you could point me to?
Thanks,
Joan
Answer I haven't seen exactly what you are looking for. I imagine that it could be communicated in a nice little PowerPoint. In fact, you have given me an idea – that is unless you want to do it and post it here on the bulletin board. To gather the material, I would first go to About.com, the sister site to AllExperts.com. Also, Whatis.com is an online encyclopedia of IT terms, but they have good coverage on telecommunications as well, and each definition has references to other sites.
Here are some additional Web sites that I found surfing just now:
Then, the next thing that I would do would be to search the public Web sites of the major telecom manufacturers. They might have some good graphics to add to the PowerPoint presentation. I would check Lucent, Cisco, NEC, Nortel, Siemens, Erricson, Mitel…. Maybe even some of the regional Bell operating companies have information on their websites. It would take a bit of work. Good luck. –John W.
