Question hi Leslie,
I too have an MSW and have made the decision that, if possible, I would like to telecommute. I currently work in case management in a hospital, but also have work experience in Foster care and family therapy (which i still do per diem). My question to you is how do I find an SW telecommuting job?
Answer Hi Tanya,
Searching for a work-at-home job is much the same as searching for a traditional job. However, you're more likely to find one online than in your local paper. With that said, I don't see as many social work jobs. I do see case manage work, but that's usually in nursing.
I found my home-based social work jobs, simply by sending a letter of inquiry and my resume to agencies in my state. Most weren't interested, but it only takes one. All the social workers in my state with the agency I work with now are contract workers (not all work full time. Some still have a regular job). If I were you, that is the route I'd go. Be sure to mention how hiring a contract or home based worker will save them on overhead and other expenses. Its all about what's in it for the employer when you ask to work at home.
