Telecommuting - Work from home jobs

Expert: Leslie Truex - 5/13/2009

Question
Hello, my name is Rashad.  I always get things emailed to me or I will see ads for work at home jobs. Where do I go to find a real work from home job?

Answer
Hi Rashad,
Its not likely you'll get a legitimate work-at-home job in your email. While these jobs do exist, they are found and obtained the same way traditional jobs are. You need skills and experiences, and to go through a hiring process. You can't just sign up for a work-at-home job.

The first step is for you to learn about work-at-home jobs (telecommuting) such as what it is, and what companies allow it. Next you need to outline your skills and experience in a resume. Finally you need to search for jobs based on what you have to offer an employer. Jobs can be found in many places. You can search the major job boards (Careerbuilder, Monster) but you do need to beware of scams and business ops that also get posted there. It helps to remember that legitimate jobs don't require a fee to get hired, nor will they ask you to use your personal bank account to help it do business. There are some telecommuting job databases that you can access for a fee that make finding jobs easy as they weed out the scams.
