Answer You are correct about the bogus jobs offered on the Internet. I refuse to pay money to make money also. That's why I use getafreelancer.com. It is free to join, and when you win a job bid, they only take a small portion of the total fee. Even there good jobs are few and sometimes far between. Often though they have turned into long-term jobs that lasted for up to a year.
I guess what I am trying to say is: don't get your expectations up too high!
There are other job boards similar to getafreelancer out there. Try searching for 'freelancer database'.
Another suggestion is making a home business. Brainstorm to see if there is something in your community that is needed that you can supply from home (such as a shopping service for the elderly).
