Subject: phone as intercom
Question I have two buildings on the same phone line and I want to be able use the phones to call, or intercom, from one building to another. In a previous response to Roger dated 5/22/2007 with a similar question, you said that he could buy something to hook up to existing phones to use them as an intercom from phone to phone in his house. I'm wondering what that is as my research isn't coming up with anything but expensive systems.
I am looking to replace my phones anyway, and found one that has an intercom that works from phone to phone (up to 8) as long as they are connected in parallel, the Panasonic KX-TS3282B. But it is a corded phone. Ideally I'd like cordless phones and was hoping you could give me some advice as I don't know where else to turn. Thanks.
Answer Lydia,
Most cordless phones come with an intercom from handset to base unit. Radio shack also sells adjunct units to be used with your corded phones. You can also contact your local telephone company to have intercom service added to your line. These services and devices are available in the united states. For others outside the us, I have no information.
Spencer
