Subject: DSL speed over distance

Question
I've been checking into upgrading from dial-up to DSL internet service.  We
are about 2.5 miles from the hub.  The ISP told us that is close enough for
good service.  How far away would one have to be before the speed really
slows down?

Answer
David,
You won't notice a slowdown in speed, as most telephone carriers WON'T even hook you up if you're too far from the central office. Speed slows down generally around 18,000 feet out from the central office or remote hub.
