Subject: Telephone Jark Wire Configuration

Question
About 8 years ago we had an additional second line installed in the house.  (the key feature) was that no additional wireing was nessisary.  I now want to change a jack so that the second line will work from that jack only and forgot with wires to switch.  Black to red? Green to Yellow?  The telephone guy said just switch them?

Answer
Hi, Jonathan.  The easiest way to switch a jack from the main line to the addional line (or vice-versa) is to plug a phone into the jack you want to use and go out to the interface box.  In the box are terminals for the main and the add'l lines.  By process of elimination, taking one set of wires off a terminal at a time, when the phone goes dead you found the right pair of wires for that jack.  Move them to the other terminal.  Now the jack is connected to the other line.  (By the way, BellSouth charges $45.00 for that service).  Color doesn't matter as long as you have the right set of wires for that particular jack.  I hope this helps you.  Later, Bill...
