Question
Hi. I had a second line put in my house when we finished our basement. We have since turned off that line and I wanted to take that jack and hook it into the main phone line. I can find the box for the phone, but not sure how to change lines. All the wires seem to be intertwined.

Can you help?
thanks

Answer
Mike,
you didn't say who your telco service is through, or the type of jacks etc you have, but I'll give you a rough way to do this. 1 Go to your interface and find the line that you had disconnected. 2 move the red and green wires from that line to the terminating points of the working line -ie red to red green to green. 3 plug a phone into the jack in the basement and see if it works. If you can't break dial tone, reverse the red and green wires on that jack only and check it again.  THIS IS A SIMPLE FIX since I dont know your service provider or the type of network equipment in your home. Spencer
