Question my phone line is out. when I call my number it is busy and when at home we can not get on the internet.the tone is good at the outside box but at the jacks there is no tone. what should i checkand or tighten up?
Answer As your line is good at the outside box it must be a break between the outside box and the inside phone jack box. Can you see a break in the cable? Also at the internal box in the UK a pair of coloured wires should be on the pins marked 2 & 5 and another on pins 3 & 4. I would also unplug all equipment from the phone line and plug back in. In the trade we can use a toner to trace the cables but you wont be able to do this. Also see if you can plug a phone in the socket rather than the modem and see if you can dial out, if you can it will be the modem or your software causing a problem.
