Subject: cordless phone lost communication with base

Question
I have a GE cordless phone model # 25831ge3. It is two phones with one base. After about one month, one phone stopped working in the middle of a call. The screen said out of range, but I was only twenty feet away from the base. ( the other phone worked fine ) I called GE, they said I needed to unplug the base (power and phone line), and remove the batteries from both phones. Then to wait for 15 minutes, then  follow the registration process in the manual. After doing this both phones don't work. They just don't seem to be able to communicate with the base. Any Ideas ?

Answer
Most handsets require you to deregister the phones first before re-registering so I would firstly try to unregister both phones. Then register them both again, also you will likely to be asked for a "base number" or similar so you will need base 1 for both.

I could not find a manual for that phone but I would suggest also making sure the battery is full charged before registering. Also be aware that you PC can intefere with the radio signals and also wireless routers which often work on about 2.4GHZ though this handset is on 5.8GHZ so it should be better for interference. Though good practice would be to have the phone away from PC's and wireless routers or similar devices.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Richard
