Question
Hi Spencer;

I had some cordless 2.4 ghz phones.  Occasionally, I would pick up one of them to make a call and it would be dead.  In fact, all of them would be dead or appear to have gone into "intercom" mode.  I have one old princess type phone and it would have a dial tone.  If I called my home number from another phone, they would ring and the system would be fine again.  I thought it might be my wireless PC network interfering with it, although it is off when not in use.  So I purchased a new DECT 6.0 cordless system.  Now it's doing the same thing.  Can you tell me what might be happening?  I worry that someday, we'll need to dial out in a hurry.

Answer
David,
Are we talking about one base unit with multiple handsets, or more than one base unit?

Not being able to see your system, I'm going to guess as to a cause. Do you place the handset(s) back on the charging base after each call? Are the phones ALWAYS on the charging unit? Do they have good batteries?

I've found most problems similar to yours seem to always go back to the batteries. Either the phones are "overcharged"
or not charged at all. Make sure you have good batteries, charge them, and DON'T leave the handset on the base unit all the time. Cordless phones were designed to be used, that is-charged up AND DRAINED often. When they are constantly being charged they "die" at the least amount of drain on them. (this is why a cordless phone should be in your kitchen or most used area). Bedroom and less used phones are better being the WIRED type (like your old Princess). As far as the phones going into intercom mode, I've seen them do that, call 9-1-1 and other numbers, or just start redialing endlessly till the batteries are dead, all because of power problems.
New batteries are sold at most electronic stores, as well as from the dealer. Try changing the batteries, and remember to drain your phone through using it, or taking it off the base unit, and only charge it 8 hrs a day, and see if the problem goes away.
