About Marcia Studley Expertise I`m a true member of the tv generation! I grew up doing my homework while watching the classics of the 60`s and 70`s and today, they are still my favorites. I have a big library of tv and film reference books at my disposal, as well as a large video library. My memory is pretty darn good too, and when that fails, I can hit the books and/or videos, not to mention a few friends who are as devout tv gen members as I am. Please note that my expertise is with American tv only.
Question My parents were on an early 60s episode of Truth or Consequences with Bob Barker. They were reunited when my dad was stationed in California in the army and my mom stayed in Memphis with her family. Their 50th wedding anniversary is coming up next June, and my brothers and I would love to get a copy of the episode but have no idea where to begin. I have googled classic television archives, UCLA television archives, T or C specifically, you name it. Is there any way for the general public to have access to archived footage of these shows? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Answer HI Liz,
That was a great show; loved watching it when I was a kid. To be honest, I'm not sure those shows exist anymore. In the back of my brain, I recall most of them being destroyed in one of the fires years ago. There's a good chance they were taped ove, as well. That's happened with a number of shows like that.
There is the New York Museum of Television which is the national archive. You can try them. There's also something called The TV Connection that you can sign up for and connect with other fans, and you never know. You might get lucky. Google 'TV Connection'. It's part of Shokus Video. I believe it's still out there, but I haven't used them in a long while.
And if you're truly desperate, try writing to Bob Barker, through his agent. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
