Television Trivia/Old TV Show/Pilot

Question
When I first saw the movie the Matrix, I thought back to a TV show, had to be in the 70's. It centered around a man who had a surgical procedure, and had a plug in the back of his head. Through this plug, information could be downloaded to his brain, allowing him to perform much like in the movie the Matrix. I have repeatedly tried to recall the name of this TV show/pilot to no avail. Can you help with the name of the show?

Answer
Michael, I don't know if it was you, but someone asked me this question some time ago...

I didn't have the answer then, but I may have it now...

On May 12th, 1980, the CBS Television network ran a pilot show called, "The Ultimate Imposter", which starred Joseph Hacker as Frank Monihan, a secret agent who, after being captured by the enemy, was treated with a chemical that erased almost 90% of his memory...

When we got him back, a Dr. Jake McKeever (played by Macon McCalman) implants an experimental computer in his brain to recreate his mind, and get his memories back...

It doesn't say anything about a plug in his head, though...

The pilot also starred Erin Gray as "Bucky" Tate, Frank's girlfriend and fellow agent...

The pilot story revolved around Frank's attempt to rescue a Russian sub commander who wants to defect...

I hope this answers your query !!!

Thanks for a Great Question !!!
Take Care,
Mike

I will try and answer all questions dealing with television...show names, plots, actors, roles, networks, etc...US shows primarily; not real knowledgeable on TV from other countries...I lean heavily into past, more so than current, television...and, my knowledge dealing with "reality" shows is limited, due to the fact that I really can't stand the genre (my apologies to all the "Reality" fans out there...)
