About Marcia Studley
Expertise
I`m a true member of the tv generation! I grew up doing my homework while watching the classics of the 60`s and 70`s and today, they are still my favorites. I have a big library of tv and film reference books at my disposal, as well as a large video library. My memory is pretty darn good too, and when that fails, I can hit the books and/or videos, not to mention a few friends who are as devout tv gen members as I am. Please note that my expertise is with American tv only.

Television Trivia - Easter TV specials/1970s

Question
Hello Marcia,
This may be a long shot, but I am hoping you can help!

Each year at this time, I recall an Easter special I used to watch every year as a kid (on Easter or another Sunday morning) that depicted the death and resurrection of Jesus.
I'm 43, so I believe this aired for a number of years in the late 60s/early 70s.

It was live-action, shot on film, I believe, and if memory serves, was a half-hour in length. I haven't seen it in many years and would love to view it on-line or purchase a DVD.

Some scenes I recall depicted Jesus carrying the cross; the weeping women who mourned Jesus; two men reading scripture from a scroll; and the crucifixion. The program ended with Roman soldiers checking the seal on the tomb, only to have it break open when light came from behind the stone upon the resurrection.

I thought maybe this was a program presented as part of "This is the Life" (Lutheran Synod) or "Insight" (Paulist Press), but I have contacted both and neither had any info on it.

Again, I realize this may be a tough one, but I would truly appreciate any info you have or can find on it. Of course, I wish I could remember more, like the title.

Thanks again,
Greg
Pittsburgh, PA

Answer
Hi Greg,

First, I apologize for the slow response.  I've been sick and am still recovering, so have a backlog of questions I'm trying to get to.

Re: your question, the only thing I can find is a TV series called Appointment with Destiny that included an episode called The Crucifixion of Jesus.  It was narrated by John Huston.  I don't recall the specifics of it, but it sounds like it could meet the bill.  If not, I really don't know.  This was done in the early 70's and was a David Wolper production.

You can find more information on the series here -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202182/combined

Good luck!
