About Marcia Studley
Expertise
I`m a true member of the tv generation! I grew up doing my homework while watching the classics of the 60`s and 70`s and today, they are still my favorites. I have a big library of tv and film reference books at my disposal, as well as a large video library. My memory is pretty darn good too, and when that fails, I can hit the books and/or videos, not to mention a few friends who are as devout tv gen members as I am. Please note that my expertise is with American tv only.

Television Trivia - 70 or 80's tv movie

Expert: Marcia Studley - 4/17/2009

Question
I have been searching forever about a movie I saw as a child/teen.  It was simular to "Love Story" but the young man was poor and the young lady was rich.  They wanted to marry but her mom said "no" b/c of his background.  They pledge their love to each other and then bury a set of her pearls.  As they leave the mountain, they are involed in a car wreck and he is told by her mom that she is dead.  Many years later he meets her at a small town where she is opening a story (or maybe she was an attorney) or something like that.  He doesn't know her at first b/c of her plastic surgery but she knows who he is.  Her mom had told her that
her "boyfriend" had died in the car crash.  They end up together in the end......was it a tv movie, or am I living my past life...?

Answer
I *love* this movie.  It is WONDERFUL.  It's based on a book of the same name, and if you really like the movie, I recommend getting the book to fill in the pieces and get more of the story.

The movie is called The Promise.  It starred Stephen Collins (of 7th Heaven fame) and Kathleen Quinlan.  Did I say I *love* this movie?  lol   I really do.  It's not your imagination; it's very real, and it's a delight.

Thanks for the smile that thinking about this movie just brought to me!
