Television Trivia - early 80's tv movie about new girl in school who is ghost

Question I have been searching the internet for this made for tv series back in the 80's.
I'm guessing early 80's. What I remember is that it was about a new girl that
went to this high school. She was a cheerleader I think. A guy falls in love with
her, but turns out she is really a ghost of sorts, because she attended that
school long ago and somehow was able to come back. Ring any bells?

No bells are ringing and I can't find much in my research. Do you remember any other details, like actors or what network this was on? I found a book with a similar plot, by R.L. Stine but it wasn't published until 2006. Any other details might help me find it for you!
