Television Trivia - trivia question my professor asked the class

Expert: Mike Hensel - 5/21/2009

Question
There was a TV show in the late 60’s ealry 70’s based on Roger’s and hamerstein play (the show had a different name than the play) – the play was also made into a movie of the same name before the show.

The show had 2 stars that were actors that went on to costar in their own primetime shows.  They also recorded a couple of top 10 rock hits.

Name the show, the actors, the series that 2 actors went on to star in, the top 10 hits, the Hamerstein play/movie.

Answer
Not sure about this... the show I have in mind was based on something NOT done by R & H...

But...

the show was, "Here Come the Brides", shown on the ABC Television Network from September, 1968 to September, 1970...

it was based on the movie, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", which Rogers & Hammerstein had absolutely nothing to do with...  :-)

Written by Albert Hackett, Francis Goodrich, and Dorothy Kingsley; music by Saul Chaplin and Gene de Paul; lyrics by Johnny Mercer; based on the short story, "The Sobbin' Women", by Stephen Vincent Benet)

The pair in question from the series would be...

David Soul, who went on the star in "Starsky & Hutch", and had a hit single called, "Don't Give Up On Us"...

and...

Bobby Sherman, who went on to star in the TV series, "Getting Together", and had a string of top 10 hits, including, "Little Women", and "Julie (Do You Love Me)"...

Hope this is right, but.... please let me know the answer !!!

Thanks for a Great Question !!!
Take Care,
Mike
