I will try and answer all questions dealing with television...show names, plots, actors, roles, networks, etc...US shows primarily; not real knowledgeable on TV from other countries...I lean heavily into past, more so than current, television...and, my knowledge dealing with "reality" shows is limited, due to the fact that I really can't stand the genre (my apologies to all the "Reality" fans out there...)

Television Trivia - 70's tv movie.

Question
QUESTION: I saw this movie on tv when I was five years old and couldn't finish it. I ran to
the kitchen crying when a father ties a rope to the neck of his sons dog. The
crazy part is that the boy is up in tree with an old lady bird watching. There is
this unbelievably tense(to a five year-old) sequence where the kid sees his
father in a truck towing a boat through the binoculars. The camera flashes
back and forth from son to father as the father launches the boat, tiesa rope
around the dogs neck. there is a rock tied to the other end of the rope and
the father throws it all over board. The boy sees this progression through the
binoculars and as he panics so do I. The last thing I saw before turning it off
and running into the kitchen was the dog under water fighting to come to the
top and bubbles.
I know the description is long but I have been trying in vain to find out the
name of this movie along with other details for over 17 years now. Any help
would be great. Thanks, Jason

ANSWER: I like long descriptions, Jason, it usually better for me; however, I'm not familiar with that scene...

You say you saw it when you were 5 years old; please tell me what year that was... and anything else you might remember about the time frame, i.e. was it during the summer, winter, day, night; anything you might remember...

Since this was not a private message; perhaps my fellow experts can chime in if they recall this...

Sorry I couldn't answer your Query (right now, anyway) !!!

Thanks for a Great Question !!!
Take Care,
Mike

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply. I was 5 in 1977. I was in Rhode Island and I believe
it was summer time, I know it was around afternoon 3-5pm. The lady who
the boy was birdwatching with had a tractor with a moose head mounted on
the front. I believe the dog was a stray that the boy found. The fathers
motive for drowning the dog was that the dog caused him trouble. For
instance, there is a scene where the father is cutting down a tree and as the
tree is falling it becomes appearant that it will fall on the dog. The kid cries
out and the father runs to the dog to keep it from being crushed only to
become crushed himself just as he pushes the dog out of the way. It may
have been part of series. I even thought the kid might have been played by
Ike Eisman (tony from the original escape from witch mountain, but upon
research it's not.)

Answer
Well, I'm not very optimistic right now...

you say it was during the summer and it was during the afternoon... unfortunately, to me, that means that what you saw was probably a local afternoon movie...

That means this movie could have been made years earlier, and part of a movie package shown by that local network...

I will keep it in my "Open" file, in the event I find something down the road...

I'll follow up if I find something...

Take Care,
Mike
