AboutMike Hensel Expertise I will try and answer all questions dealing with television...show names, plots, actors, roles, networks, etc...US shows primarily; not real knowledgeable on TV from other countries...I lean heavily into past, more so than current, television...and, my knowledge dealing with "reality" shows is limited, due to the fact that I really can't stand the genre (my apologies to all the "Reality" fans out there...)
Experience Years of watching and cataloging television shows
Question I remember a movie that was on TV that was about a couple fleeing the U.S. to get to Canada. All of America had an identification card that paid for everything. No paper or currency, just the identification card. Couples were only allowed one child. This couple had had a child that died before it was born. This counted as one child. She became pregnant and they decided to get to Canada to have their baby. They met people along the way that helped them get to Canada. All healthcare was stopped at age 65. One was a doctor (he was over 65) that helped them. He had diabetes and had doctor friends that would get him his insulin. They met many other people who helped them. The end of the movie they made it across the border to Canada.
Would you happen to know the name of this movie?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Answer Maggie, that was "The Last Child", a TV-Movie shown on the ABC Television Network on October 5th, 1971...
The couple were played by Michael Cole and Janet Margolin; who's first child died shortly after birth...
It was a US Senator, played by Van Heflin, who helped (along with many others) to get the couple to Canada, so they could have their baby...
