Question
Hai, do you mind explain & describe to me what this whole sentence means, please "Television sex and violence does not mould societal values, it merely mirrors them.' Discuss." My english is very bad, I think I only get partially meaning of it. I'm going to do group presentation about this. I would love to know what are your opinion about this topic too if you dont mind. For my part, I'm going to focus on "television sex & violence" & "how tv influence society", what do you think I should include or present or tell the audience about. If you dont mind can you suggest me the some website references on this that is not on people opinions & reliable. Thanks. If you dont want to help me with my last 3 questions at least tell me what the meaning of the whole sentence, I need a clear cut of it for my research & presentation. Thank you very much

Answer
Wow, Warm... greetings from the Unites States !!!

None of this falls under my "expertise", as it is, but I will try some of this...

What I think the sentence means is that the images shown on our television sets reflect what the world is like in reality - well, at least, some of it - and it does not set the trends of the world; it does not tell us how to behave...

So, the stories shown are written by people from their own experiences, and by what they see as they live their daily lives...

My opinion is that, if you are a normal human being, with all of your mental faculties in place, watching TV will not "rot your brain", or cause you to behave in a manner totally different from the way you would normally act...

The one other comment I will make is that I find it funny (and sad) that most people get more upset with the sex part, which is a natural part of the human existence, than they do with the violence part, which to me, is the more damaging aspect...

I do not know of any websites that might help you, but if you go to any of the larger search engines (Yahoo, Google, etc...), you should be able to find stuff out there...

Since this was not a private question, I also invite anyone out there that reads it to add to this answer with their own opinions...

I hope this helps you with your presentation, and I wish you 祝您好運 (Gook Luck) !!! (I hope I did that right!!!)

Thanks for a Great Question !!!

Take Care,
Mike
