Television Trivia/60s-70s TV Show ... Title and Details of Show?

Question
Hi.
I am stuck on trying to remember a tv show from the 60s or 70s, and perhaps you can fill me in with its title and other details about it.  I thought it starred Michael Cole (from The Mod Squad) but his bio doesn't seem to show it.

It was a show about a group of people marooned on an island that had been used by the Navy for practice targeting runs -they built a whole community and city, with mannekins for people.  These marooned people (sort of like a 70s LOST) had to figure out how to survive before worrying about escaping off the island.  The lead guy knows how to build internal combustion engines and is able to jury-rig a bunch of dune-buggies, which they drive all over the place.

Any ideas?  I keep thinking Land of the Lost, but wasnt that about dinosaurs?

If you have any info, I'd love to hear it, thanks!

Steve

Answer
Hey, Steve...

You have me boggled beyond words here... Definitely not Land of the Lost... dinosaurs on Saturday morning... but the desription you are telling me is completely new to me, and I NEVER get something asked of me that I hve never heard a thing in the world about... gonna have to really get into some research about this... you have my curiosity peaked...

Is there anything else you can tell me about this show? Tell me about the other actors... what they looked like, anything....

I'm going to figure this out or die trying...

Expertise

I`m a pop culture freak who loves TV, old and new... ask me about classic TV, new TV, commercials, jingles, cartoons, Saturday morning shows, you name it. If I don`t know it, I can find it out... Believe it or not, I even know some of the infomercials by heart.. "Set it and forget it!"

Experience

Lots of time reading the TV Guide, and way too many nights of insomnia...
