Question
Hello sir,
sir i m Dr. Imran and i m doing post graduation residency in Pediatrics in Pakistan.I have one problem
Sometime when i m on my duty and House officers(junior Doctors) commit some mistake,i suddenly say few angry words to them, which are often very insulting. It consist of only one or 2 angry sentences.it comes like a suddent wave of rage in myself which vanish with equal rapidity.i can't control myself and can't avoid this suddent wave of anger.
Afterwards they start avoiding me,esp female House Officers.
sir kindly guide me dat what kind of attitude i should have towards my junior colleagues in Hospital so that they respect me.
Thanks

Answer
Dear Dr. Imran,

Allexperts seems to be having some technical issues. I will answer the question again.

As a pediatrician you are aware of the developmental stages of emotion as well as physiology. You are also aware of the intense pressures placed upon individuals in their residency rotation.

In fact the S.M. Jex study out of Central Michigan University in 1991 indicated a high correlation between completing a residency and experiencing professional, personal and high psychological stress and strain. Indeed, the study also described a high correlation between these stressors and maladaptive behavioral interactions with others.

I would suggest you consider how your temperament corresponds to the manner in which you are interacting with others. If you are a high Sanguine and are assuming the role of a high Choleric to control how you are perceived you will ultimately experience a high emotional conflict.

If you are interested in the topic I have written extensively on the topic on my site Elemental Truths.

Thank you,

Dr. Reg Adkins of www.elementaltruths.com
