Question
We will be visiting Gatlinburg in July. We  will be staying at Laurel Point timeshare. Is there a shortcut from where we are staying (Ski mountain rd.) to the outlet malls? to get around the traffic? Thank You, Denise

Answer
Denise:

Ordinarily, I would refer your inquiry to my wife who is the absolute consummate Pigeon Forge outlet shopper, but it was a big day and she has hit it for the night.  So, be advised that you are getting second-best advice.

Just out of curiousity, where are you visiting from?  You can e-mail me direct at arewethereyet@jyares.com.

You most likely will be interested in shopping at Five Oaks, Red Roof Factory Mall, Tanger Pigeon Forge, and Belz.

Here goes.  From Ski Mountain Road, you make your way back to the main road, "The Spur."  Be careful and obey the speed limits--sadly, five folks were snuffed there this past weekend in a car wreck.  Drive N on The Spur, which is US 441/321 all the way through Pigeon Forge and almost into Sevierville.  On your R will be the big Tanger Five Oaks Mall.

Backtrack down 441/321 to Traffic Light 2 on the N edge of Pigeon Forge and turn L on Teaster Lane (bypass) and follow it to its junction with Davis Rd (where 321 splits off for  Townsend).  Ahead to your left will be the Belz Mall and to your right down Davis will be the smaller, but still interesting Tanger Outlet Center.

Then drive down Davis back to 441/321 and turn L on 441/321.  Drive to Traffic Light 4 and on your R will be the Red Roof Factory Outlet Mall.

From there, you can either continue S on 441/321 back to your apartment, or if you've made reservations, go back to the 441/321 to Townsend intersection (Traffic Light 3), turn L on 321 and drive to Chef Jock's TasteBuds restaurant.  Opens at 5 (last time we were there).

Hope this helps.

Jerry in much less hectic Maryville
