Question Hi there!
I would like to see Nashville and Memphis. I live on the west coast of FL and would like to come up through Alabama to see that state too. What is a must to see in each city. I'm in my 60's but love everything. Shopping good buys where? What is the best ground tour to take in each city. A dinner cruise? Rip offs to stay away from? Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Love antiques if there are any shops to see! Like to golf and fish but not a must..just if you find a reasonable course to tell me about or a good ol fishin spot! THANK YOU JENNIFER!
Answer Bev,
Memphis is really my only area of expertise.
Lets begin with lodging as this can make a difference in your experience. My favorite place to stay is Shellcrest, a historic, beautiful, magical property near downtown and midtown. It rests in a changing area of Memphis which can best be described as an urban renewal area where there are many historic properties nearby. It is just lovely and so are the owners, surely it is the best deal around. It is not just about lodging; it is about experiencing Memphis full circle.

Also places to lodge are The Peabody Hotel, The Madison Hotel, and the Talbot Heirs Guesthouse, all of which I am sure you can find with a simple search on your computer.
Downtown Memphis is rapidly changing for the best; no longer a downtown known for having to really watch your back. There is revitalization going on everywhere. Spend some time downtown for sure and do not miss:
Drinks at the Peabody Hotel at the bar and on the rooftop where views cannot be beat. Do not miss the rooftop at the Peabody, also serving brunch there on Sundays. This is a lovely hotel.
Exploring on the Trolly. Don't miss Lower Main...where there are art galleries, shopping, dining. Keep an eye out for a great antique store in the area....I have forgotten the name but it is pretty special.
Consider a ride on the Mississippi on a riverboat.
There is a great antique district called the Cooper Young Historic District I am sure you would enjoy.Lots of antique stores. Also, take a walk down around Overton Square on Madison Avenue ( the trolly goes there) ...lots of stores and dining. Best Places for dining around there: Paulettes, Finos, and there is a great pizza place. There are some beautiful, old neighborhoods around there you might like to explore especially around Overton Park ( great art museum in overton park as well ). The architecture can be quite grand if you let yourself explore a little.
There is always Graceland if you are an Elvis fan.
Two of my favorite places for shopping are the Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma outlet. They are both located off Poplar on a road called Spottswood in a shopping center where they also have Target.
If you have any more thoughts, questions, etc feel free to write back. Sorry, I am not up on the fishing and golf!
Have fun!
