Question Dear Mr. Yares:
I don't know if you can help me but my family and I would like to visit Memphis in August. We would be there over the weekend.
I want to find a hotel near Graceland. Heartbreak Hotel is full and I wonder what other places are around that area?
Thanks : )
Answer Ruth:
Sorry, but I live in E TN about as far from Memphis (400 miles) as you can get without having NC license plates. And the last time I was in Memphis was 1968--I stayed at the Peabody and admired the ducks in the lobby.
I believe that Graceland is somewhere near the Memphis airport. If so, there is a Super 8 (about $60 for two), a Ramada (about $70), and a Comfort Inn (between $70 and $100) nearby. And on the other side of the airport are two properties of our favorite travel lodging, Extended Stay America. Check their web site, www.extstay.com. For $50 to $60 a night, you get a clean, quiet room with a big TV and cable, a recliner chair, and a stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, and cooking utensils and dinnerware. At the end of the day, we pack in dinner from a nearby supermarket and kick back for the evening. No pool, restaurant, or fitness center, however, if you require those things.
Memphis in August? You are courageous! You certainly won't need to bring a winter coat.
Have a good time! Our friends tell us that Graceland is delightful, particularly if one is an Elvis fan (and who isn't?).
