Question Can you direct me to any riverboat operators that travel between Chattanooga and Knoxville in either direction OR any boat charter/rental companies that might fit my needs. Four people (2 knowledgable boaters) for day, overnight or weekend trip.
Answer Luana:
Since moving here from NW FL eight years ago, we've been working on a similar plan. Quimby's Cruising Guide likens the TN River, Knoxville to Chattanooga to a trip down the Rhine except that instead of castles you pass upscale homes. Downriver beyond Chattanooga is the fabled TN River Gorge, spectacular when viewed from Signal Mountain, so I can only imagine how impressive it must be from river level.
There are no established tour boat tours. But there are several houseboat rental agencies along the river. The distance (about 100 miles) that you are considering is such that a round trip from Knox or Chatt may be feasible and affordable.
Locking through the TVA dams is a no-brainer given that there are four of you, including two who know a line from a rope.
