Question
hi joe,

i am 15 years old and a competitive player...i dont like to play doubles because it once hit my eyes and i became trauma...i know it is good for practice my volley...but i am just too afraid...can i be a good player if i only play singles??
Also i want to ask how many times do i have to swim and massage in a month..thanks joe for your precious time..

Answer
Hi Rayadi,

I’m sorry to hear about the accident while you were playing doubles.  Yes, you can be a good player if you only play singles.  But you are right about doubles being a great way to develop your overall game.  Doubles are also a great social activity.  You can have a lot of fun with friends doing something that you all like a lot.

I do not understand your other questions about swim and massage.  Swimming is an excellent way to develop certain muscles and stamina; however, it does not develop reflexes, explosive muscles, timing, and a lot of other things that you should be working on during your fitness training.  Think about jumping rope, working out on machines, and getting acclimated to the heat.  Massages are also great.  When you work out hard and your whole body aches, a massage can relax you, help get rid of chemicals produced by exertion that make you feel stiff, and loosen the muscles that are stiff and sore.  So you could swim whenever you want to and take as many massages as you can afford.  But try to get some other exercise too.  Good luck with your game, Rayadi!
