Expert: Penny DiLoreto Date: 4/29/2008 Subject: When to get rat terrier spayed
Question I have a 5 month old rat terrier and was wondering when to get her spayed. She lives in the house with two male labs (one fixed and one not), so I want to make sure I know about when she will come into heat and when I can get her spayed.
Answer Hi Kim. Check with your vet, but more and more vets are now recommending that dogs be spayed/neutered at 16 to 20 weeks (4 - 5 months). Rat Terriers can go in to their first heat as early as 6 months, and it is best to have her spayed before then.
Good luck, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions. Sincerely, Penny D.
