Expert: Penny DiLoreto Date: 5/14/2008 Subject: JRT overzealous when encountering another dog
Question We recently adopted a sweet 1 yr old JRT from rescue. She is great except for 2
things. Separation anxiety and the worst behavior is when we encounter other
dogs. She loves them and is uncontrollable and has this very high pitched loud
whiny whisper bark when she sees them. I have tried everything the books and
my vet have suggested. Can this be overcome? Please help.
Answer Hi Sybil. Unfortunately this problem might be the reason she was surrendered by her previous family and put in to a rescue facility.
I recommend that you contact a local trainer to come work one on one with both you and your JRT. It should only take a few sessions and the reward of having a dog that doesn't become overzealous will be well worth the time and expense.
Good luck and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions. Sincerely, Penny D.
