About JKC
Expertise
I am not a native Austinite, but lived in Austin since 1989. I certainly can not answer everything there is to know about Austin, but can give you a candid answer/opinion based on first-hand experience. I decided to volunteer (or pretend to be an expert) since there is no Austin "expert" in this site.

Experience
Austin and some surrounding areas

Question
How far is Austin from Fort Hood, Tx? How is the job growth in Austin? Do you recommend a certain area to live in with excellent school district and community? Do you recommend a particular builder since we are looking at new construction only?

Answer
Fort Hood in Killeen, TX is about 80  miles (about 80-90 min drive).
I have answered several times about neighborhoods.  So you may want to check my answers to previous questions.  In net, a simple list would be:

1. Westlake (Eanes ISD) - most exclusive ($750K )
Westlake HS in top 100 public HS in the nation by US News and World Report
2. NW Austin (Round Rock ISD) - $350 - $800K
Westwood HS is also in the top 100 by the same magazine
3. Opinion varies, such as areas near UT that is reconstructed, etc..

Good home builders are Toll Brothers and David Weekley.
