Question
Hi I am a student of a high school in slovakia.i am 16 years old and planning to go to a high school in  usa.as i love hot weather and sea i want to go to the states on south like   lousianna or south carolina or texas.but i have heard many deterrent things about texas.for example:there are no good high schools-the quality of education is low, people  are selfimportant and arogant, and texas accent is strange. are these rumours or true?

Answer
Katka,

Please continue to do more research about the states because you need more information than some rumors to make your decision!  There are millions of people in Texas and you can't make sweeping generalizations about everyone based on some stories you may have heard.

I live in Dallas.  There are many very good school districts in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, as well as Houston and Austin.  Look up the Frisco, Allen, Plano, Highland Park, and Lake Highlands high schools in particular.   I have heard that in the Panhandle and the Valley the school districts have less money and may not offer the same high quality education, but I would think you could find some statistics online about the number of students that went on to college in each district, or the awards, which would help you make your decision.

Everywhere you go you will find people who are self important and arrogant and they will be the ones who make the news stories.   A friend of mine in Switzerland also believed we have drive by shootings all the time because that's what she sees on the news.   Unfortunately, there are no news stories about the majority of people who are loving, humble, wonderful, law abiding citizens.  This is the Bible belt, (yes, Louisiana is also included), which means there are a lot of churches, so there are a very large number of church-going families.  I know many many people that are good hearted and hard working and every day I will see someone go out of their way to help someone.

Best wishes in your decision.

Pat
