Question
Sir,
Why should petroleum engineering student study appied thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
What are the advantages of using stream engine for Modern purposes.

Answer
Hi Godspower,

Q1. Refining crude oil to make a huge range of petroleum products involves a range of exo and endo thermic processes. The transfer of the heats involved and the movement of the fluids involved is fundemental to the science.

Q2. Steam engines in modern life are used to generate electricity in power stations that use  gas, coal, oil or biomass. Steam is also used as a heat transfer medium in many industries. This is because it has a high heat capacity compared to other gases, its properties are well known and it is cheap.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes

Kevin
