Question
Hello sir

Sir how rain bow is formed

Thankyou

Answer
Hi AM,

Any good physics text book or encyclopedia will explain this using optics and geometry.

In words it is a bit more difficult but:-

A shower of rain tends to be composed of drops of very similar size as it is all percipitated under the same conditions.

Each rain-drop reflects, disperses and refracts light which strikes it.

The rainbow can only be seen oposite the light source (the Sun).

Rainbows can be formed from mist, spray (bow of a boat, water fall etc.) and any source of water drops in air.

Wikipedia has an excellent artical on this topic.

Best wishes.
Kevin
