Question
Dear Prof Kevin

Is it possible to check the temperature
in Snow using thermometer mostly observed in Mountains and Hillstations?

Thanks
Prashant

Answer
Hi Prashant,

We normally require to measure the air temperature. This cannot be done accurately in snow, rain, hail, mist, high winds etc. This is because chilling and evaporative effects distort the result. For this reason air themperatures are measured in louvred boxes.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes.
Kevin
