I was seen by my family doctor about a multitude of symptoms that I believed were related to my thyroid. Several years ago I was diagnosed with an enlarged thyroid with a cyst. My endocrinologist at that time chose to just monitor me. He ultimately said that it reduced in size and the cyst disappeared. I have one sister that had surgery for and enlarged thyroid and another that was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. back to the present. she ordered a blood test which shoed a leal of 1.08 and I forget the other levels since I am unable to locate the paperwork at this time. She also ordered an ultrasound that came back as the left lobe (same side as before) is enlarged with a texture different overall from the right side. I am schedule to go back to the same endocrinologist in several weeks. My question is 1)Should I be concerned about this? 2)is there anything I can due to feel better?. Some of my symptoms include extreme fatigue, occasional insomnia, hair loss, Severe headaches which cause nausea , and more.
Answer Kristi,
Yes, you should be concerned with this. There is a reason that your body is malfunctioning and we have found that many times although the thyroid may be malfunctioning or showing signs of ill health, it is almost always due to the disruption of communication between the brain and the thyroid. In other words, most times the thyroid problem is only the effect of the underlying cause which is nervous system related.
We can discuss this further if you are interested in learning about it, but just know that there is not only one thing that can be done for you when they tell you that, and also you do not need harmful medications and surgery in order to get well. As a matter of fact, that actually contributes to the problem or at least leaves it uncorrected. You need someone to locate and correct the cause of your problem if it is ever to go away for good.
