About Karen Brawner
Expertise
I will answer any questions you have regarding the thyroid whether it be cancer, cysts (types), hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, blood tests for thyroid problems, surgery, fine needle biopsies etc...

Experience
My complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus were found my accident when my doctor thought I was having a TIA. The ultrasound found a complex cysts the size of a golf ball (which turned out to be the size of a tennis ball when it was surgically remove). Doctors were totally surprised because for 5 years, including the day I went to surgery, all of my thyroid blood work was "within the normal range". So much for blood work being conclusive..

Question
Hello Karen,
I was diagnosed with hypothyroism about five years ago. I take o.137 MG of levoxyl and half a 25 MCG tab a day of cytomel. My doctor says my tests are normal. But, today I heard Doctor Rosenfeld on the Fox News channel saying that low body temperature is an indicator of an improperly functioning thyroid. I have a low body temperature, around 96 degrees or so. Does this mean that my medication isn't correct?
Thank you,
Mia

Answer
Dear Mia,   It is possible that your medications are not working correctly, but it is also possible that you have one or many other medical problems that cause low blood temperature....  A normal blood test for thyroid is NOT always normal for everyone....

Since there are other medical conditions that can cause low body temperature, you need to research
         causes for low body temperature
on the internet....

here is just one of many

thank you,   karen
