Question The doctor felt of my throat and told me my thyroid was enlarged so he sent me for an ultrasound. They told me the ultrasound showed 2 cysts on my thyroid. Then the doctor ordered a thyroid uptake and scan. The results showed that my thyroid didn't have cysts, but was overactive. I'm confused.

-----Question-----
I am 31 years old and had a blood test done to check my thyroid a few weeks ago. The results were normal. I had a thyroid uptake and scan done because the doctor said my thyroid felt enlarged. The results showed that I have an overactive thyroid. Why did my blood test show that everything was normal?
-----Answer-----
everyone have his variability and these two test recognize different pathology.
blood test shows your hormones which are used to function, while scan shows your ability to take up iodine to thyroid gland.
but the scan is usually done by reason, did the doctor tell you why he send you scan as your blood test is normal?
what are your symptoms?
Answer well, you have 2 problems.
about the overactive thyroid in the scan, it may indicates iodine insufficiency.ask yourself about your food, does it contain enough iodine?(more seafood, more iodine)
about thyroid cysts, you have to check it up if it's malignancy, by repeated ultrasound in next 6-12 months.
i don't think that the scan can see the cyst because it usually don't have hyperactivity.
