About Karen Brawner
Expertise
I will answer any questions you have regarding the thyroid whether it be cancer, cysts (types), hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, blood tests for thyroid problems, surgery, fine needle biopsies etc...

Experience
My complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus were found my accident when my doctor thought I was having a TIA. The ultrasound found a complex cysts the size of a golf ball (which turned out to be the size of a tennis ball when it was surgically remove). Doctors were totally surprised because for 5 years, including the day I went to surgery, all of my thyroid blood work was "within the normal range". So much for blood work being conclusive..

I have recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and from my research have discovered that 2% of completely healthy women develope Hypothyroidism during pregnancy due to the increased function needed from the thyroid during your pregnancy. For many of these women the issue does go away within a few months of the pregnancy, however some have a problem with their thyroid getting used to the medication and never fully starting up again. If your doctor decided to go off the medication that is fine, but blood work is needed again in a few months to find out if your Thyroid kick started itself again or not.

As far as the bloating, I have been doing nothing but researching this for days and I have read no such thing anywhere.

Actually, you may not need the drug for life because your condition could have been post-partum thryoiditis--can be hyper or hypo.

I take the med, but I do not have bloating associated with it.

Your hormones could still be unbalanced. Are you breastfeeding? If so, you will still have many hormones unbalanced. The same is true if you have just weaned your baby.

Honey, I have had rai and have been on .1 mcg, .75 mcg .50 mcg of synthroid. Now I take .50 mcg during the week and .1 mcg on the weekends. I have gained 10 pounds in the last year. My belly looks 4 months pregnant and I constantly wear a coat at work to cover it. I walk 1 hour daily and I cannot lose a single pound. I know its synthroid that is causing me to look pregnant.

Some synthetic thyroid medications can facilitate weight gain as well as hypothyroidism itself.

My doctor just told me to stop taking my thyroid meds because they're giving me problems.

Karen,
I don't know what your experience is with thyroid medicine, but many cause bloating. I have experienced it myself on the synthroid meds. I have not experienced it with Armour. According to my Endo many people on Synthroid/generics do experience bloating. My dilemna is Synthroid works well for me aside from bloating. I have tried many ways to prevent or relieve this but to no avail.

Roger
