About Karen Brawner
Expertise
I will answer any questions you have regarding the thyroid whether it be cancer, cysts (types), hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, blood tests for thyroid problems, surgery, fine needle biopsies etc...

Experience
My complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus were found my accident when my doctor thought I was having a TIA. The ultrasound found a complex cysts the size of a golf ball (which turned out to be the size of a tennis ball when it was surgically remove). Doctors were totally surprised because for 5 years, including the day I went to surgery, all of my thyroid blood work was "within the normal range". So much for blood work being conclusive..

Thyroid Problems - thyriod and heart!!

Question
I had 2 tests done echocardiogram and holter monitor done and they came back normal..Had blood taken from me to see if my thyriod was acting up or what not, thats how you test for it right?..Pat

Answer
Dear Pat,   You need to have a actual cardiac STRESS tests done...  An echocardiogram and holter monitor will only responde to a current problem, where as the stress test will test your heart function from resting to total exertion while exercising....  This is the BEST way to know if you have a heart problem or an undiagnosed heart problem....

As for the thyroid blood work, it is NOT always reliable... I have 2 complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus of the thyroid and the one on the right thyroid gland was as LARGE as a tennis ball and YET, all of my thyroid blood work came back "within the normal limits".....  Thyroid blood work is NOT a one test results fits all, so you need a doctor who is willing to listen to your complaints and symptoms MORE than relying on thyroid blood work.....

Thank you,   karen
