About Karen Brawner Expertise I will answer any questions you have regarding the thyroid whether it be cancer, cysts (types), hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, blood tests for thyroid problems, surgery, fine needle biopsies etc...
Experience My complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus were found my accident when my doctor thought I was having a TIA. The ultrasound found a complex cysts the size of a golf ball (which turned out to be the size of a tennis ball when it was surgically remove). Doctors were totally surprised because for 5 years, including the day I went to surgery, all of my thyroid blood work was "within the normal range". So much for blood work being conclusive..
Question Dear Karen,
I have had 2 surgeries for thyroid cancer,
first one was to remove part of thyroid , found
cancer, week later went back to have it totally
removed, that was almost 4 yr ago, now I have
been sent a letter saying I have a lymph node
in left side of my neck 5 x 9mm oval density
and want to know what my options are.
I imagine them to be perhaps biopsy or surgery.
I know thyroid cancer metastasis to the lymph nodes. It was picked up by a sonogram of my neck,
blood work was ok for both things.
thanks
Jean
Answer Dear Jean, YES, you will need surgery and biopsy of all of the tissue that is removed.... If it is more cancer, then you will most likely need chemotherapy, since this would be a sign that the cancer cells are in your blood stream and lymphatic system and spreading within your body....
Let me know what happens with the surgery and biopsy....
