About Karen Brawner Expertise I will answer any questions you have regarding the thyroid whether it be cancer, cysts (types), hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, blood tests for thyroid problems, surgery, fine needle biopsies etc...
Experience My complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus were found my accident when my doctor thought I was having a TIA. The ultrasound found a complex cysts the size of a golf ball (which turned out to be the size of a tennis ball when it was surgically remove). Doctors were totally surprised because for 5 years, including the day I went to surgery, all of my thyroid blood work was "within the normal range". So much for blood work being conclusive..
Question Hi. Recently, I was was experiencing what I felt like indigestion and a general 'heaviness' on my chest. My windpipe seemed narrowed or block in some way, but I put it all down to indigestion. After 3 days of feeling lethargic, swollwen and suffering discomfort I decided to go to the Dr who was sure I had subacute thyroiditis and ordered me a series of blood tests, which all came back negative. I am awaiting some more test results and hope in the mean time u may have advice/suggestions to what I can do next. Any info that you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Amy.
Answer Dear Amy, These symptoms could be related to an undiagnosed heart condition or blood vessel or artery condition.... However, it could also be related to nodules or cysts on your thyroid that are causing interference with your breathing because they are pushing or growning too close to your esophagus or windpipe....
I had two complex cysts, one the size of a tennis ball on my right thyroid gland.... It caused me to have symtpoms of shotness of breath, difficulty swallowing food or liquid, choaking on my own salava while asleep, changes in my voice sounds.... My doctor ordered an ultrasound of the thyroid and they an iodine uptake ct-scan... This confirmed the cysts and the possiblity that they may be cancer... My thyroid blood work was "NORMAL" even the day before I had my thyroid surgery....
