About Karen Brawner Expertise I will answer any questions you have regarding the thyroid whether it be cancer, cysts (types), hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, blood tests for thyroid problems, surgery, fine needle biopsies etc...
Experience My complex cysts on my right thyroid gland and the isthmus were found my accident when my doctor thought I was having a TIA. The ultrasound found a complex cysts the size of a golf ball (which turned out to be the size of a tennis ball when it was surgically remove). Doctors were totally surprised because for 5 years, including the day I went to surgery, all of my thyroid blood work was "within the normal range". So much for blood work being conclusive..
Question Hi, You were so wonderful in answering my question before, I have recommended your site to my daughter who has children and will probably need help from time to time.
Question: I was going to call my doctor back about waiting to see what happens with my elevated TSH. I suppose I have no antibodies that he is concerned with. Anyway, this pain comes and goes as does the severe fatigue and weakness. Is this normal? Will I ever get completely rid of the tenderness and will it lead to hypo in the future. Which way do yu suggest? Thanks in advance for answering me.
You do a great service and i just wish more people would know about your web site.
Thanks, Teresa Mahlandt
Answer Dear Teresa, The TSH is NOT a test for antibodies and unless he did the test for antibodies, you don't know if you have problems with antibodies..... I would suggest that you get a COPY of all the blood work that the doctor did (you have that right by law) and read it and check it yourself so you know or get back to me and I will try to help.... The only problem is all labs have different normals levels, high levels, low levels etc, and that is why doctors use the same lab all the time, so I may not be much help with this labs level readings....
I am more concerned about the pain in your throat.... You could have a nodule on the thyroid and when you turn or do certain things, even sleep, it could be causing you pain...
I honestly think your doctor needs to be more concerned, maybe do a COMPLETE THYROID PANEL, if he has not already done so, may order an ultrasound of your thyroid and/or a nuclear uptake scan to check for hot/cold areas....
I don't know what is actually causing the tenderness so I can't say, but I can say it is not normal unless you were a person who had had thyroid surgery and then yes, it would eventually go away.... The fatigue and weakness will not go away unless you are put on the proper medication you need....
I still suggest that you see an endocrinologist....
