AboutRaphael Heng Expertise Anything about Big Cats, especially Tigers. You can also ask me any questions or doubts you have about the organisation Save China's Tigers as i am a volunteer there, How the tigers affect the ecosystem in Africa etc. Questions about any feline re-wilding projects could be ask here, eg: Asiatic lion re-wilding. I can answer questions in both Chinese and English, questions on interspecies conflict regarding felines can also be answered.
Experience I am a volunteer of the Charitable Organisation, Save China's Tigers. The Organisation aims to save the South China Tiger via re-wilding training in Africa and releasing captive trained tigers back into the China's wild.

I have a question I think its quite difficult hope you can help me out. I recently read something at wikipedia. It says in the wikipedia According to modern research of wild Siberian tigers in Sikhote-Aline, an average adult male tiger weighs 167,3 - 185,7 kg (the average asymptotic weight of male tigers, computed by use of the Michaelis-Menten formula, gives 222,3 kg) do you know what that means what do they mean with asymptotic weight. (167,3-185,7) And what does Michaelis-Menten formula,(222,3 kg) mean? Is the tigers average weight 222,3 kg how could they get that when they say 167,3 - 185,7 kg is the asymptotic weight. O my this is really confusing you probably think so to to about this. What is thier overall average weight according to them?
Thank you always Raphael keep up the great work! Best regards/Tiger lover
Answer Hello Tiger Lover,
Well, if you are asking me to define asymptotic and Michaelis-Menten formula, guess i have to drag Physics and Math into this.
But to keep this short, and easier to understand, i would just define the words for you.
asymptotic(of a function)is defined as approaching a given value as an expression containing a variable tends to infinity.
So the asymptotic weight of tigers, well, i think you can probably guess what it means from the definition.
So, well actually this paragraph isn't that hard to comprehend, it is just saying that modern research suggests that male tigers weight approximately 167.3 - 185.7 kg. However while using the Michaelis-Menten formale, they get another average of 222.3kg. So according to the sentence you gave me, the average weight according to them is not the latter one, so the average weight according to them is 167.3 - 185.7kg.
