Finally, what we are doing has never been done before. Hello,
I really hope you can help me as I am just about at my wits end. Back in May of 2004 My husband (then fiance) and I signed up for a one week stay in a resort, for which we paid in total $1295.00. We only paid part of that at the time to the pushy sales person, the rest we set up payments through a crediting service. Here is what happened:
We walked out with a contract, but were told we'd be mailed one with more info a few days later. They sent our copy of the contract to some family many states away, and we received theirs. Of course, this was upsetting as the contract had our names, address, social security numbers, and such on it. We tried to contact the family whose info we were sent, but they were not very receptive to us. We asked them to destroy our contract if they received it, and we promptly shredded theirs, because that is the honorable thing to do. After this, we were furious with Island One for being so careless with our information. We called to notify that we mailed out a cancellation letter, and to report the problem. The person we spoke with was apologetic, and said that they would resend our contract to us. Big surprise, it never turned up. This one too, may have been accidently sent to someone else, but we have no idea who. After one more call, we finally received our copy in the mail. By now, the 10 days to cancel were up, and we called to make sure they had received our cancellation letter and to see how to get our refund. The person we spoke with claimed that they had never received our letter, but that we could try to send in another. It was of course now beyond the time for them to refund, and I know we made an error in not sending the letter by certified mail. I spoke with another associate, who said that we could be given a refund if we continued to make our payments they had already set up, and when the full amount was received they could issue a total refund. It sounded odd to me, but being 20 years old (my fiance was 26) and very short on money, we thought it would be better to pay and get the full refund rather than them hassle us about canceling and loose the money we'd already invested.
During this time, my husband started noticing charges showing up on his credit card that were nothing that we had charged. He quickly called the credit card company to dispute the charges, and ended up having to cancel the card and to get a new one. We angrily called Island One to report this, as we had never had problems until they had sent our personal information to other people. Also since then, I have had bankruptcy claims and such showing up on my credit report.
Of course, after we made all of the payments they said "no refund, but when would you like your vacation?". We have been harassed for years now by these people trying to get us to use our vacation, that they keep "extending" our rental agreement to be nice to us, when we have flatly told them that we want nothing to do with them and still want our refund. I still am having credit issues, and I am sick to death of these people. I know that we made some errors, but I think their lying and careless ways are deplorable. What should we do?
I have been telling our story and working my way up through the ladder of slimeballs at Island One, and I am now waiting on a call from "Monse" (I did confirm spelling). Monse has supposedly been there for 11 years and "remembers everything". PLEASE help me. I am now 6 1/2 months pregnant with my second daughter, and I am so weary of the hassle. I just want our money back and to be left alone by these people. Thank you for any help that you can give!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write to me on your issue with ISLAND RESORTS and ISLAND ONE Resorts.

What I want you to do is to write the company and copy them on this letter. Ask them for a full refund and explain what you have done to try to resolve this matter.

Since you are now six months pregnant, I do not want this matter to stress you out, and I am sure that the timeshare company will not want to inflict further damage on you or your family.
