Time-Shares - RCI points timeshare

Expert: Andreas Rossler - 12/28/2007

Question
We recently bought a RCI timeshare in Orlando FL. It seemed like a good deal.  We bought a two bedroom that some one else had traded in on a bigger condo. With the points we are not limited to vacation there in Florida. We also have unlimited vacation times in a year. We haven't taken vacations on a regular basis, but our children are older now where they will be able to go on there own.  I am uncertain if this is a good investment. If we paid $15,000 for this timeshare will we be able to sell it later for more money? In other words do these timeshares appreciate in value.  Thank you for any answers you can give.

Answer
Timeshares almost never appreciate in value - most go down in value.  The very best of timeshares sell at about 50% of retail.  If you are going to buy a timeshare, speak to an experienced resale broker to see what product is right for you and get a good idea of prices by going to eBay.com and searching on timeshares and the names of timeshares you are interested in buying.
