Time-Shares - Selling time share

Expert: Andreas Rossler - 10/29/2007

Question
In April of 2007, my boyfriend and I bought a time-share from Festiva Resorts. We want to get rid of it, for one we havent been able to use since we purchased it. Another is, he is off work due to an injury and I work part-time because I am in school. How can we get rid of this?

Answer
Since you purchased a few months ago, you have passed the cancellation period.  In other words, you are bound by the contract.  My guess is that you owe a substantial amount on this timeshare - so there will be a problem.  Even the very best of timeshares rarely sell for more than 50 percent of retail.  Most timeshares go for something like 10-20 percent of retail, plus you have to pay commissions.  What ever you do, do not pay someone an up front fee to sell - those are all scams.

Check eBay - there you will find prices and it's a good place to sell as well.
