Time-Shares - Timeshare Walk-Away

Expert: Andreas Rossler - 11/19/2007

Question
I own a timeshare. We had maintenance fees at the beginning at around $400
a year now they are up to $950. Its totally out of control. I can get a room at
the resort for a week cheaper than I can pay for my maintenance fees. I don't
want it anymore. I can't sell it. I owe nothing on it, except the outrageous
maintenance fees. Can I just walk away from this? What can I do? Could I quit
claim it to somebody who is going to die soon? Or is this thing an anchor
around my neck for life?

Answer
I like your sense of humor. Well, you have a few options available.

1.  Yes, you can transfer the Ownership to someone else, so long as - you guessed it - the maintenance fees are up to date.  You should use a closing service to do the transfer (just do a Yahoo! or Google search on the term "timeshare closing").

2.  Have you tried donating it?  Try a search on "donate timeshare".

3.  You could try selling it on eBay with a starting bid of $1.00

4.  You could contact us directly, maybe we could help:  (866) 712-2742.

If all else fails, call us - we have a sure fire way to get rid of it.
