Time-Shares - sell a timeshare

Expert: Andreas Rossler - 12/28/2007

Question
Can you give me any tips on how to sell a timeshare?  I own a floating week, fall-winter-spring, 2BR unit at Eagle Crest in Oregon.  All maintenance fees are current except for the bill that came in November.
My husband is a mortgage broker and the housing crisis has hit us hard.  We are going to lose our home and will be declaring BK in the next couple of months.  Rather than just turn the timeshare over to the courts, we'd like to try to sell it and see if the proceeds can keep us going for another month or two.
Any advice on how to get a quick sale.  We'll take what we can get for it, but ideally we'd like about $6000.
Thanks!

Answer
Really, the fastest way is to simply place it on eBay with no reserve.  It's a bit scary, but it will sell fast.  You can place a reserve (minimum), but there's no guarantee it will sell.  Using a broker could end up taking months to sell, or not at all if it isn't priced correctly.  Just make sure you don't pay any up front fees to sell.
